VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA／The Queen Of Guess
今回は現代のUKを代表する、サイケバンド『VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA』を紹介する。
VHFレーベルからのリリースやその他、『Jackie O Motherfucker』との
スプリットCDや、かなり多くの限定CDRをリリースしているようだ。
おそらく、芸術的な文脈や、ジャーナリズムの潮流とはもっとも
遠くにいるようだが、サイケデリックの乱雑さやカオスを、
カオス状態のまま、美しく、そして高貴にしてしまう彼等の個性は
唯一無二のものだろう。民族楽器の多用、ギターの重層的な重なり、
酩酊感覚、一見有り触れた音に思えるが凡百のサイケバンドとは
決定的に異なる違いを聞き取る事ができる。それを音楽的な要素には
還元できない何かと言ってしまう事も出来るかもしれないし
あるいは、ここのギターの周波数がどうだとか、
この曲のミックスがどうだたとかの
技術的な側面からも語る事が出来るだろう。
しかし今日は少しそれらより先立つ問題音楽に対峙する根本的な
姿勢について少し考えてみる。
作曲家が音楽を作曲する場合、通常楽曲は作曲家が、
神の視点に立ち、構築して行く訳だが、ジャムセッションや、
インプロヴィゼーションの場合は、そのような、神の視点に
立つ事は出来ない。（当然、厳しく自己を律する事で神の視点に立ち、
インプロヴィゼーションを行う方法もある）
言わば音楽の方が、演奏者より上位の
位置にあると言ってしまう事も可能である。
遥か古代の音楽までたどれば、祝祭で、儀式で、
神に捧げれるモノとして音楽はあったと思われる。
意識拡張し、自己を解体するサイケデリックの作用はもともとの音楽
の存在のあり方と奇妙に一致するだろう。神あるいは、
人知の及ばない上位の世界
『VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA』の中で、際立っているのは、
そのような世界に捧げる
かのような、神聖な美しさであり、
真の意味での崇高さとも言えるだろう。
